I Miss Dewey

Friday, 2 October 2009

He will not be happy with this picture, it doesn't show his face. But, it shows his pretty, shiny coat and adorable white paws. I left little Dew with my parents when I moved to London in 2006. He has lived with them since then and loves them.

My mom gives Dewey bottled water and microwaves his "wet" food. She also puts his "blankie" at the end of their bed each night to sleep on. Dewey gets up in the morning with my dad and has learned to push his head against my dad's arm when he wants to be petted.

I miss having a cat. They are such lovely company. You can talk to them, they cuddle with you and if you have a feather or plastic bag, they'll entertain you for hours.

If you think you might want a kitty to share life with (or a dog!), check out your local animal shelter. In Eugene for instance, Greenhill Humane Society is offering 50% off adoption fees for all black cats during the month of October.

I would love to have a small, cute, short haired dog, like a Rhodesian ridgeback. They are my favourite dogs. Unfortunately, if you live in a big, crowded city and out of the house most of the time, it is not a real option.
You can not lock him up at home all day, and who is going to walk him? It's not fair to the dog.

I guess I'll just have to wait until i get sick and tired of the city life and am ready to settle down in the countryside, with my dog(s), cats, maybe even some gooses in the garden.

Sometimes, as in my case, the cat shows up at the house. Dewey looks like he has Cato-like markings. Smokey, Cato's predecessor, lasted about 18 years. I still miss him.

I hate cats, but that has to do with the fact that I am totally allergic to them.

One other thing came to mind. I am surprised that your mom is able to heat his food. Of three cats that I have had, two would run away from warm food and one would pounce on it and try to drag it all over the place trying to "kill" it!

ever wondered why some people are cat people while others are dog people?do you think it has to do with personality types?

Michiel - love the Ridgebacks. They are gorgeous dogs. Ted - Cato and Dew have the same markings. I love reading about Cato on FB. Teri - you can try Zyrtek lol. How bout a dog? Pook - can't wait! Anon - yes. I've noticed there are "cat" and "dog" people but for me - I'm just an "animal" person. I want cats, dogs, a goat, chickens and maybe a horse one day. :)

Can you believe that animal shelters have a hard time getting their black cats adopted? Are people really that superstitious? One of our babies is a beautiful adopted black cat...and no bad luck yet.
